THE BEAUTY QUEEN OF LEENANE

Audition Dates: Saturday, January 14, and Sunday, January 15, @ 10 a.m. both days at the Nutley Little Theatre Barn, 47 Erie Place, Nutley, NJ.

Play Description:
In the mountains of Connemara, County Galway, unfolds this darkly comic tale of Maureen Folan, a plain and lonely woman in her early forties. Mag, her manipulative, aging mother, interferes in Maureen's first and possibly final chance for a loving relationship, setting in motion a train of events that leads inexorably towards the play's terrifying dénouement. This play won four Tony awards and the 1998 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Play. This play contains adult language and themes, and is not suitable for children.

Casting Requirements:
The play requires two men, ages 40 and 18-20, and two women ages 40 and about 70. Mild Irish accents are required.

Character Descriptions...

Maureen Folan - aged 40, weary, worn, spinster - at one time thought to be "The Beauty Queen of Leenane"

Mag Folan - Maureen's mother, aged 70, nagging, demanding, dependent.

Pato Dooley - Good looking, also aged 40 old acquaintance of Maureen.

Ray Dooley - Pato's young brother, aged 18-20, cocky but immature.
